
WASHINGTON-(AgWatch)--U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack announced 36 appointments to the Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board Wednesday along with nine members and nine alternates to the American Egg Board.
The appointees for the Beef Board will immediately serve 3-year terms, while members and alternates for the Egg Board will hold 2-year terms.
For the Beef Board, Vilsack said that the appointees represent a cross section of the beef industry.
"I am confident that beef producers and importers of cattle, beef and beef products will be well served by them," said Vilsack.
The Beef Board oversees collection of $1-per-head on all cattle sold in the United States, and $1-per-head equivalent on imported cattle, beef and beef products.

As for the Egg Board, it is composed of 18 members and 18 alternates representing six regions. The U.S. Ag Secretary selects appointees from egg producers nominated by organizations representing the egg industry.
